Job Description
Position Purpose
Provide oversight and leadership of multiple student affairs offices/departments and complete work to advance the College’s strategic plan and student success. The position leads the operations of multiple student affairs departments/areas and provides independent administrative oversight, management/supervision of professional and support staff of multiple student affairs offices/departments, which includes: hiring, staffing, budget preparation and management, program development and implementation, project management, data collection and evaluation, department workplans and assessment plans, marketing and all other enrollment and retention processes. The position will provide co-leadership in the implementation of the College’s enrollment management plan and enrollment management operations and strategies. The position provides leadership and manage responsibilities as an empowered member of Student Affairs team.
Position Responsibilities


  • Lead the operations and staff of Student Affairs departments/ areas. Accountable for the strategic oversight and ongoing development and delivery of Student Affairs departments/areas to ensure that the strategic goals of the College and Division of Academic and Student Affairs are successfully implemented. Develop and manage the personnel and non-personnel budgets and develop, implement, and assess annual work plans and program reviews to ensure that student retention and completion activities are included, measured, and achieved.
  • Exercise supervisory authority so that applicable labor agreements and plans are equitably administered and employees under jurisdiction will effectively perform assigned job duties to achieve the annual objectives of the section. Duties include, but are not limited to:
    • Assess the qualifications of candidates and hire employees to perform job duties to achieve unit objectives.
    • Supervise and conduct employee performance reviews, reward or discipline employees and promote, suspend, discharge, or change their status according to their performance.
    • Assign job duties, train, direct and supervise employees in the execution of job responsibilities to achieve annual work plan objectives.
    • Administer applicable labor contracts and/or plans fairly and equitably and in accordance with statewide employer policy.

  • Co-lead the implementation of the College’s enrollment management plan and enrollment management operations and strategies. Work collaboratively with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Institutional Effectiveness, and other college offices to ensure effective implementation of strategic enrollment management and retention efforts.
  • Provide leadership and manage responsibilities as an empowered member of the Student Affairs team. Work collaboratively with deans, vice president and college faculty and staff to implement the college’s strategic and academic plans and Minnesota State goals in support of college and student success.

Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: ( expected to have to enter job)
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education leadership, including supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse student population and proven understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion as critical components of academic excellence and student success.
  • Excellent communication skills, i.e., verbal, listening, written, interpersonal, and public presentation.
  • Experience in the areas of leadership, strategic planning, program development and evaluation, budget management, and supervision.
  • Effective/proven skills and abilities in data-informed decision-making, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Effective/proven organizational skills and abilities required to establish and manage multiple priorities successfully.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in higher education administration, student development, student affairs or related area.
  • Experience in or understanding of enrollment management to include recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Experience leading and implementing student success initiatives to increase retention and completion of postsecondary students.
  • Experience working in collective bargaining/labor contracts in an educational setting.
  • Ability to organize, conduct and participate in meetings with administrators, faculty, students, and community agency personnel in order to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Ability to deal with consistently demanding and high stress situations and deal with emergency situations.
