This job vacancy announcement will remain "Open Until Filled". This position will begin with the 2022/23 middle school basketball season. These positions are temporary for this school year only. May be hired for either the girls or boys basketball teams.

Middle School Assistant Basketball Coach: The Assistant Basketball Coach will support the Head coach with leading and organizing the middle school basketball program, and coach the JV Basketball team. Supports establishing an environment in which student athletes can gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image. Promotes sportsmanship, program equity and inclusion, a winning attitude and commitment to student academic success.

Job Purpose Statement: The primary purpose of this position is to perform coaching duties in coordination with the other coaching staff.

Essential Job Functions:

• 
  Directs and supervises organized practices sessions during the regulated season; to include seasonal goals and objectives.
• Work cooperatively with parents, other coaches, staff, and support programs.
• Assists the Athletic Director and Head Coach in maintaining the care for athletic facilities and aid in preparation of the facilities for athletic competition.
• Assists Athletic Director and Head Coach in purchasing equipment, supplies and uniforms for basketball.
• Assists Athletic Director and Head Coach in game scheduling.
• Responsible to participate in pre-season meeting with all athletes and parents, outlining schedules, student athletic contracts, and Student Athletic Handbook.
• Works to improve skills and knowledge of each athlete and the team as a whole.
• Assistans with organizing team members according to competitive levels.
• Enforces appropriate team rules and team discipline.
• Follows guidelines and principles of sportsmanship.
• Adheres to requirements of athletic eligibility.
• Adheres to District Athletic Handbook, Standard Operating Procedures of league or other (governing body) rules.
• Works harmoniously with Head coach, community volunteers, parents, and school personnel.
• Communicates effectively (both orally and written) with students, parents, officials, and staff.
• Submits rosters, equipment and uniform inventories and other reports as required.
• Along with the Head Coach, coordinates end of year awards, communications, and events.
• Monitors expenditures in relation to budget and monitors proper use, care, and return of uniforms and other assigned equipment.
• Supervises and/or arranges for proper supervision of student/athletes during practices, games, travel, and related activities.
• Assists with providing media communications related to Basketball at the middle school level
• Consults with Head Coach, Athletic Director and Administration concerning playing conditions, safety concerns, program improvements, player performance, outside complaints, and other related matters.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance, is punctual and fulfills the requirements of the position.
• Responsible for immediately reporting to Law Enforcement or Department of Human Services any instance of suspected child abuse according to (ORS 419B.010).

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

• 
  Skills possessed will exemplify a moral character that is consistent with being a positive role model for middle school students.
• Knowledge of basketball at the middle school level, including any recent rule changes. Knows how to communicate effectively with athletes and parents.
• Ability to teach skills and fundamentals; to motivate students; to work harmoniously with others; to organize and manage students time effectively; to use problem solving strategies consistently; adjusts to performing practices in a variety of locations.

Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent. College Degree Preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous Basketball coaching experience.
• Previous experience coaching youth sports.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish helpful.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance; district drug screening clearance; physical capacity assessment, BBP Training, OSAA certification, NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification or ASEP Certifications, Concussion training, Heat Illness Prevention, Performance enhancing Drugs & Substances Training; First Aid/CPR Certification.

The successful candidate will need to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test, physical evaluation and pass a nation-wide fingerprint based criminal history check through the Oregon Department of Education. Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination at time of hire, or qualify for an exception.
