Position Summary:

Assembles parts to form component parts for grounds maintenance and agricultural equipment such as drive lines, hydraulic hoses, gear boxes and other subassemblies, partially or completely, working on shop floor. Positions parts according to knowledge of unit being assembled or by following blueprints / specifications. Prioritizes work orders. Assembles various product lines.

Essential Functions of the Job:

• Sets up job by locating parts.
• Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, spaced clips, rivets, cotter pins or other fasteners using hand tools and portable power pneumatic tools (i.e. impact wrench).
• May remove small quantities of metal with hand files and pneumatic tools to produce close fit between parts.
• Operates drills or riveting machines or hydraulic crimping machine to assist in assembly operation.
• Disassembles gear boxes or other assemblies for salvage of parts.
• Usually specializes in the assembly of equipment, hydraulic booms, single spindle machines, gear boxes, hose assembly and drive lines.
• Seals inserts such as bearing and grease seals in hubs and sleeves using power press.
• Attaches blades to hubs on reel shaft.
• Runs test to verify correct assembly of equipment.
• Appropriately fills out work orders and time cards.
• Trains other employees.
• Minor paint touch-up.
• May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

• Ability to read blueprints and interpret assembly instructions.
• Manual dexterity; mechanically inclined (experience operating pneumatic and manual hand tools) and good eye/hand coordination.
• Knowledge and skill in use of caliper and other measuring devices.
• Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane.
• Troubleshooting skills.
• Good communications skills, both verbal and written.
• Knowledge of and ability to use both powered and hand tools.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience with assembly or mechanics highly preferred.

Working Conditions:

• Ability to lift, push or pull up to 35 pounds alone and greater than 35 pounds with assistance.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (up to 8+ hours) as required by tasks being completed.
• Ability to wear appropriate PPE, including hearing/eye protection, gloves and safety shoes.
• Must be able to work overtime as needed to complete job assignments.
• Ability to work in a non-climate controlled manufacturing plant environment.
• Must be able to work in confined spaces.
• Must be able to tolerate heights.
• Frequent walking, bending, stooping, reaching and climbing as required by tasks being completed.
