This position will support a multi-year LED street light conversion project in various locations throughout Virginia. Some travel may be required to fulfill responsibilities.
Position Summary
The Lineman Apprentice has knowledge and understanding of work practices related to aerial line work and is able to work with an experienced Lineman in the power secondary, working from both on the pole and/or out of a bucket truck, and able to operate a line truck. The Lineman Apprentice will perform execution of work at the direction of a Lineman including but not limited to installation of new street light poles, installation of new or repair and/or retrofit existing masts and bulbs, and installation of fiber optic lines on joint-use poles.
Primary Outcomes:
- Adheres to all prescribed safety procedures and consistently uses appropriate safety equipment.
- Performs installation/retrofit/repair tasks that meet industry standards, customer specifications, and is of good workmanship and quality.
- Executes other tasks as directed
The responsibilities listed above are the primary responsibilities and considered to be most important. All the duties and responsibilities of the Lineman Apprentice 4 may not be listed.
Requirements:
- Prior enrollment in a certified lineworker training program, reaching Apprentice 2 classification, at minimum.
- Understands minimum approach distances for the voltages involved
- Familiar with OSHA Standards 1910.269 & 1926 subpart V.
- Valid first aid and CPR training
- A pre-employment, on site certification will be required. The applicant must successfully show that he/she can complete the duties as described within this document to the satisfaction of the construction supervision.
- This position requires significant time doing manual labor functions, walking on uneven ground, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding. Must be able to perform heavy physical work and perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Must be able to climb pole using pole climber gaffs.
- Current valid driver’s license (preferably CDL Class-A) with a clean driving record is required.
- Willing to travel to assigned work locations.
