Where the Chemistry Happens

As a chemicals supplier to almost all industries, BASF will establish a standalone subsidiary dedicated to its Mobile Emissions Catalysts, Precious Metals Trading, Recycling, and related Products and Services business. The new group is referred to as BASF Environmental Catalyst and Metal Solutions and is wholly owned by BASF. BASF Environmental Catalyst and Metal Solutions will operate globally in over 15 countries and comprise of approximately 20 production sites and over 4,000 employees.

We are seeking exceptional candidates for an Anti-Money Laundering Risk Specialist position who will have primary responsibility for ensuring that appropriate review, reporting, and audit activities are employed to ensure that there is compliance with the BASF Corporation’s as well as BASF Group’s Anti-Money Laundering Program and Know Your Customer areas as well as compliance with statutory unclaimed property (Escheat) regulations issued by U.S. States and Territories. As a member of the Credit and Treasury team you will be engaged in Customer Credit Risk Management (CCRM) evaluations and reviews.

    A strong aptitude to independently learn will allow you to maintain an awareness of changes in external AML, KYC and Escheat practices and regulations (US Patriot Act, Dodd Frank, State Escheat rules) as well as internal business strategy and organizational changes. You will be responsible for addressing critical cases and escalation procedures as well as oversight for applicable regional training and awareness programs.

    Utilizing your strong collaboration skills, you will effectively liaise with business commercial team for vetting and onboarding counterparties as well as facilitating periodic risk-based reviews of existing counterparties. A strong organization awareness as well as ability to build and maintain effective relations will allow you to engage appropriate BASF internal expert support (legal, tax, GB, CFT, business) to address complex issues as well as develop appropriate responses and solutions associated with high-risk markets, jurisdictions, and/or counterparties.

    Attention to detail and use of internal credit risk tools, data analytic approaches, third-party sources (Credit Risk Monitor, Credit Bureau’s, US Corp Registries, D&B, Bloomberg, W-9’s SEC filings) and database tools (Refinitiv) will be essential to effectively confirm third-party information as well as secure information required to address your role’s requirements.

    Advanced communication skills (written as well as verbal) will be essential to facilitate your ability to effectively ensure that the technical concepts associated with your area of responsibility are understood by BASF business and commercial teams to assist in balancing risk management with business objectives.

    Focused on continuous improvement, you will support flexible and harmonized processes and support new technologies as well as digitalization programs that will allow you to ensure your role’s requirements are applied in a manner that ensures effective alignment between compliance and business objectives.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Your formula for success…

    Undergraduate degree in related field coupled with relevant experience such as experience in financial statement development, financial audits and/or financial evaluations coupled with demonstrated strong data analytical skills

    Utilizing your solid problem-solving ability, you will drive the resolution and/or provide guidance for internal and external audit topics as well as Financial Reporting Control points associated with your areas of responsibility.

    Utilizing your strong financial acumen and data orientation, as a subject matter expert, you will serve as the central point for management of AML, KYC and Escheat topics and issues for the ECMS business. You will be responsible for addressing in a timely and satisfactory manner critical cases and escalation procedures.

    Leveraging your strong negotiation, mediation, and conflict management skills, you will drive the resolution of Escheat audits with the States and Territories as well as engage, if required, third-party experts including asset recovery services.

    Your strong sense of accountability, ability to manage ambiguity, as well as ability to influence others with or without a position of authority will ensure that AMLP alerts or transactions deemed suspicious are addressed utilizing established AML and KYC principles as well as ensure that the required documentation aligns with BASF practices.

    CAMS certification a plus
