Shelby Humane Society is a non-profit animal shelter in Columbiana, AL 35051. We are looking for a Medical Assistant to help care for animals and support the medical team. The ideal candidate will love dogs and cats, be hardworking and eager to learn. You will also need to be organized, able to multi-task, and interact with prospective adopters, staff, and veterinarians.

Responsibilities:

• Provide and document animal care, medications received, treatments and concerns.
• Obtain accurate vital signs on patients.
• Sooth upset or frightened animals.
• Observe animal behavior and health conditions and document.
• Keep accurate records and logs.
• Collect and prepare samples.
• Assist medical and intake staff with vaccinations, assessments, and interfacing with local vets.
• Restrain animals in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the shelter including kennels, intake, medical office, public areas, etc.
• Communicate professionally with staff, the public and veterinarians.

Desired Education and Experience:

• High School diploma or GED
• Flexible schedule including some weekends and holiday shifts.
• Knowledge of medical procedures and animal handling
• Must have computer skills.
• Must have the physical and mental capacity to preform in a fast passed and challenging environment.
• Familiarity with ShelterLuv a plus.
