Based in Massachusetts, Bonhams Skinner holds around 80 sales a year in 20 collecting categories including Americana, Fine Art and Collectibles, and Wine, and ranging from fine violins to contemporary paintings.

About the Role

Bonhams Skinner is seeking a Specialist in American Furniture & Decorative Arts to work as part of a team to appraise, research, catalogue, and market the material within this department. We are looking for a personable, detail-oriented individual who has the knowledge and skills to further the growth of this important area

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-auction and post-auction support including inventory, cataloguing, photography assistance, etc.
  • Coordinate with Skinner inventory and production departments
  • Receive inquiries for auction appraisals and take in consignment material under supervision of the department head
  • Provide the department head with administrative and logistical support as needed
  • Liaise into the Skinner auction schedule to aid with sale registration, internet bidding and phone bidding

Key Skills & Attributes

•• Bachelor's degree in art history or a related field is desired; minimum 2 years experience in the auction (or related) industry
  • Strong foundation of knowledge in American Furniture & Decorative Arts
  • Attention to detail, aesthetic sense, can-do attitude, ability to juggle multiple tasks, adhere to strict deadlines, and work collaboratively as a team member a must
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and administrative skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; end-user proficiency with online and social media platforms such as Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter
  • Ability to learn existing Auction and Inventory Management System
