Overall Job Function:

To assist lead and region agronomist(s) in support activities and to maintain and to proactively build long-term, profitable relationships with customers for Farmers Cooperative Society

Essential Job Functions:

At Farmers Cooperative Society the Agronomy Tech will:

  • Assist in support activities for lead and other agronomists including administrative work (blend sheets, customer and agronomist record keeping, seed product ordering and inventory management) and other activities with the objective of creating more sales time for agronomists.
  • Technical agronomy support for agronomists and core customer base including field scouting, sampling, diagnostics, and understanding and providing some recommendations back to agronomists.
  • Software and hardware lead and support person for SOILMAP for agronomy sales, operations, and administrative team. Includes accurate digital field set-up, product set-up, and customer information. Set-up and troubleshooting of application hardware and related systems. Expert familiarity of FCS IT systems that link to SOILMAP and related programs.
  • Warehouse management including product ordering, inventory, and customer assistance.
  • Operations support during key times of the year including operation of application equipment, product delivery, and assistance in around the yard, along with any other operational assistance.
  • Equipment maintenance at the location.
  • Attend key FCS meetings and training events.
  • Work with agronomists, operations manager, and agronomy manager on professional skill development.
  • Supervise summer agronomy intern for the region. Mentor and coach interns for the season. Coordinate day to day tasks for interns for best possible customer service and FCS workload needs.
  • Work in various areas and on various projects related to the agronomy department.
  • Participates in “special projects” when needed and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Progressive, positive work history
  • Technology acumen including Microsoft and Apple software platforms, advanced computer use
  • Class A CDL with tanker and Haz Mat endorsement
  • Custom application licenses
  • Certified Crop Advisor certification preferred

Work Requirements:

This position is based in a fast paced agricultural setting and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles. The noise level is usually moderate but occasionally may be loud. PPE will be provided and must be utilized according to safety standards. Typical working hours are based on customer and organizational demand; hours may be long, irregular and including weekends and holidays during peak season.

While performing job functions the employee will be required to talk and hear most of the time. The employee will spend frequent intervals moving and sitting, while also needing to reach, bend, twist, crawl, crouch, stoop or kneel. The employee will need to be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and able to climb ladders. The physicality of this job is high.
