Black Gold Farms has an opportunity for an AGRONOMIST for its Arbyrd, MO farm location. The Agronomist position is a critical leadership position on our farm. The Agronomist works closely with management to position the farm for a successful crop season. The role also offers potential for growth within the operation.

Responsibilities:

• Assisting in pre-season crop planning and land selection.
• Ensuring the crop gets off to the best start possible by ensuring seed cutting, placement and spacing is done properly.
• Monitoring field conditions to make sound agronomic recommendations to the farm manager.
• Working closely with internal and external expert partners to manage the growth of the crop.
• Monitoring soil moisture levels to ensure irrigation is scheduled timely.
• Leading GlobalGAP procedures for the location.
• Compiling crop data to ensure the best possible decisions can be made for the crop.
• Participating and supervising scouting and tissue and soil sampling activities.
• Conducting pre-harvest digs and projections to predict yield and quality in the field.
• Executing research objectives at the farm and company-wide level.
• Supervising intern and seasonal staff activities.

Requirements:

Plant physiology; Pest and weed control; Chemical application; Plant disease identification and treatment; Scouting and data collection

Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, or related field

Valid Driver's License

Strong communication skills, including Microsoft Office Products

Desired:

Irrigation experience

Sweet potato knowledge and experience
