This position reports to the Flight Sciences Section in Blue Origin’s Advanced Development Programs business unit.
As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will lead the Aerodynamics and Aerothermodynamics technical development activity for a Reusable Space Transportation system. In this role, you will guide the aerodynamics/aerothermal team to perform the analysis, development, and testing for a reusable hypersonic vehicle. As well, you will collaborate with the vehicle systems engineering, propulsion, structures, GNC, and dynamics teams to ensure design coordination to meet the vehicle performance deliverables. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of the program through their entire lifecycle, from early conceptual design and configuration through flight operations and sustaining engineering. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in development of air or space vehicle with aerodynamics and aerothermodynamics analysis responsibilities
  • Demonstrated experience in the aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic configuration development
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining databases for use in trajectory, GN&C (Guidance, Navigation, and Control), thermal, and structural loads analyses using both analysis and test methods (e.g., hand calcs, CFD, wind tunnel testing)
  • Demonstrated experience with CFD tools, including mesh generation and solution post-processing; aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic testing; and engineering level methods (e.g., Missile DATCOM, MINIVER)
  • Experience supporting or leading wind tunnel testing and/or flight testing, including data reduction and post-flight data analysis
  • Experience using Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) to analyze rarefied gas dynamics
  • Experience in development of integrated systems and effective communication of aerodynamic impacts to other subsystems and product objectives
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired:
  • Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Strong aerodynamic fundamentals and intuition through continuous and free molecular flow regimes
  • Experience with CFD solvers: CFD++, FUN3D, LAURA; and pre/post processing tools: Pointwise, Ensight, ParaView, Tecplot
  • Experience developing flight test plans and operational procedures
  • Familiarity with Astrodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, and Space Flight Environment Analysis and Modeling
Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $70,125-$102,850
Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $76,500-$112,200
