Hours/Shift Part Time/Varies
Key Responsibilities
- Prescribes and administers safe, effective, and motivational exercise to individuals in accordance with guidelines established by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
- Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the human body as it relates to exercise and safety precautions.
- Uses and teaches correct technique as it relates to exercise.
- Adheres to all Del E. Webb Wellness Center policies.
- Attends staff meetings and scheduled workshops and incorporates new material into training.
- Maintains a working knowledge of proper instruction by completing continuing education courses and workshops approved by the Fitness Manager, Director, or designee.
- Responsible for notifying member(s), Fitness Manager, and/or MOC when unable attend a scheduled appointment.
- Identifies member(s) goals and medical history and uses this information to determine if they meet the requirement of apparently healthy individuals or those with mild to moderate specific medical needs or if they require the services of a Master Level Trainer to correctly prescribe and administer an effective and safe exercise program.
- Demonstrates ability to respond to changing circumstances so as to maximize opportunities and minimize problems.
- Acts decisively and takes effective action within established policies/procedures.
- Trainer demonstrates professionalism, courteous, familiarity, and rapport with members and does so in a friendly, positive manner.
- Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with members/guests so to project a favorable image of the Wellness Center.
- Trainer shows flexibility and availability in scheduling.
- Trainer readily works with others on staff as well as employees in other areas.
- Trainer shows support of all other staff and all other programs offered at all times.
- Adheres to the Behavioral Expectations.
- Stays current on industry trends with the intent of implementing during the training session.
- Trainer has an exercise plan in place prior to the members’ arrival. 5449 (Init: 8/17ms Rev: 2/18sn (Please refer to electronic document management system for the most current revision) 4/18sn; 12/4/18sn)
- Is on time for exercise sessions and stays entire length.
- Responsible for and should be a natural motivator. His/her enthusiasm should be at a high level when teaching, when interacting with members and when working with other staff members.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must have good record keeping skills to accurately maintain workout records.
- Ability to develop positive interaction and communication with members, guests, co-workers, and other Wellness Center staff in order to effectively promote active participation.
- Serves as a motivator in the work environment by possessing good communication skills with a wide variety of populations.
- Must be able to communicate related instructions.
- Ability to comprehend and explain educational material in the subject areas of basic exercise physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, nutrition, and exercise performance. Education: High School or GED equivalent or college level degree. Certification/Licensure:
- CPR certification through American Heart Association: BLS or Heartsaver with AED or American Red Cross with AED.
- Fitness Certification from any of the following: ACSM, ACE, or NSCA, or other certifying agency accredited program. Experience: One to two years of work experience in exercise/fitness.
