Adult, Teen, & Child Counselor– DV & Sexual Assault (Bilingual Preferred) Job at Brighter Tomorrows, Inc.
Brighter Tomorrows, a non-profit health and human services agency located in Dallas County, serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, is seeking a Counselor who can serve our adult, teen, and child clients (bilingual preferred).
Brighter Tomorrows offers comprehensive and responsive solutions to those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault through our 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, counseling services, and advocacy. Our service delivery framework is built on trauma-informed best practices that promote safety and self-determination and are offered by highly trained staff at no-cost to our participants.
Shift available:
Temporarily hybrid of in person and remote due to COVID. This is not a full time remote position.
Monday - Friday: three evenings and two mornings per week. Work schedule subject to change based on organization’s needs.
Job Type: Full-time
Requirements:
· Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field
· LPC, LPC Associate, LMSW, LCSW, or LMFT. Must be a current state of Texas license.
· Knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault, trauma informed care, and how trauma impacts individuals
· Must pass a criminal and DMV background check (clear driving record)
· Must pass drug screening
· Valid Texas Driver’s License
· Willingness and ability to transition to in office full-time when required to do so by funding sources or Brighter Tomorrows
Preferred:
· Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
· Play therapy experience
· EMDR certification
Position Purpose:
· Responsible for providing trauma informed, linguistically and culturally responsive mental health counseling to primary and secondary survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide crisis response and intervention using approved methods promoting the safety of all clients, emotional support, information and referrals, safety planning, and positive problem solving to primary and secondary victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Demonstrate sensitivity and support to those in crisis using non-judgmental and tactful words and actions.
· Provide individual, group, and/or family counseling sessions to survivors in accordance with Brighter Tomorrows expectations, practices, and policies. Sessions take place in our community offices and/or via telehealth.
· Provide best practice methodologies for play therapy in addition to traditional talk therapy.
· Provide information on victim rights and resources, orient clients to nature and purpose of involved systems as it applies to client’s situation, assist clients in filing crime victim’s compensation claims, assist clients with Victim Impact Statements.
· Accompaniment of clients to court, emergency medical care, meetings with local and federal law enforcement and prosecutors, initial appointments for mental health or substance abuse treatment, etc.
· Provide advocacy, case management, referrals and/or service navigation to participants as needed.
· Practice Trauma Informed Care consistent with Brighter Tomorrows model of counseling and program service delivery.
· Meet regularly with supervisor to support client care and professional development.
· Help develop and participate in Child Abuse Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities.
· Keep up-to-date and accurate records. Complete documentation of services, including intakes, demographics tracking and statistics, reports, and all other documentation required by Brighter Tomorrows, grant funders, and licensing requirements in a timely manner consistent with agency expectations.
· If working towards licensure: maintain hours, associated paperwork, and other requirements to work towards licensure.
· Other duties as assigned.
