Position Specifics
Darrow School is seeking an Administrative Assistant to support our Dean of Students. This is a unique opportunity to join a team of caring individuals whose main objective is to ensure that a consistent, positive culture and high expectations are maintained throughout the School and by all teachers and students. A successful candidate for this position has a sense of ownership and pride in their work and recognizes its impact on the School’s success. They should also be self-motivated, able to stay on task, complete projects with limited supervision, and able to troubleshoot and solve problems on the fly.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Working with the Dean of Students and the Director of Residential Life to develop and manage academic and social policies, protocols, and practices that serve to support student development, learning, health, and safety
- Tracking, recording, and reporting student attendance, discipline, & incidents; compiling nightly and weekly summaries for overnight and weekend duty teams and health center
- Assisting with the management of the School's administrative software/student information system for demographic data of students and families; assisting in annual back-end coding and customization for attendance, discipline, and emergency notification components; updates each quarter, trimester, and semester as needed
- Coordinating student travel and transportation
- Communicating with parents effectively, timely, and professionally as directed by the Dean of Students
- Managing and coordinating the school store
- Assisting with coordinating and staffing student events such as Prom, Baccalaureate, Commencement, family weekends, and new-student orientation if needed
- Ability to be available some evenings and weekends as needed; the nature of this role makes it necessary for you to occasionally be present for student and family events such as registration, family weekends, and Commencement
- Expected to be dynamic, collaborative, personable, outgoing, energetic, and organized while being flexible enough to adapt to the needs of the students and staff in the program, and work within a team model to provide our students with the best experience possible
- Other duties as assigned by and in support of the Dean of Students
Required skills/qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or three years of administrative assistant experience, preferably in an educational setting
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel; Adobe Acrobat; and Google Sheets, Docs, and Gmail preferred
- Familiarity with handling confidential information appropriately
- Excellent written and oral communications skills required; ability to proofread and edit documents preferred
- Willingness to work nights and weekends as necessary
- Flexibility, maturity, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor
- A deep appreciation for the vision, mission, and values of the school
- An aptitude for problem-solving
- Ability to work independently and proactively
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Must have a valid driver’s license

Darrow School is an independent, co-ed, boarding and day school for grades 9-12 that offers a comprehensive and individually focused college-preparatory curriculum featuring a unique combination of classroom instruction, experiential learning, and environmental consciousness. The School is located on 365 acres in the Town of New Lebanon, located on the New York State side of the Berkshires, and is comprised of 26 buildings, 16 of which are Shaker-built and designated as Registered National Historic Landmark buildings.

With just over 100 students from around the world, Darrow offers faculty, staff, and students a dynamic boarding school experience. Founded in 1932 on a beautiful 365-acre Mountainside campus, we are the only boarding school community on a National Historic Landmark.
