The function of the Addiction Counselor is to provide integrated mental health and substance abuse services to consumers with co-occurring disorders. The Addiction Counselor's job responsibilities include assessment, use of stage-wise interventions, provision of substance abuse group, implementation of harm reduction techniques, and treatment planning.

Our JCAHO accredited facility is nestled in a wooded retreat on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain, we are just east of the causeway and 45 minutes from New Orleans. We provide long and short-term behavioral health care to adults and adolescents, and acute detox and substance abuse care.

While you won’t be leaping tall buildings in a single bound, during the course of a day, you can expect to:
- Provide therapeutic support for mental health and substance abuse: incorporate recovery based and harm reduction strategies into therapeutic work with consumers
- Provide professional and ethical therapy to dual diagnosed chemically dependent and mental health patients in treatment through group, individual counseling, family counseling, discharge planning and consultation with outside healthcare providers, and education
- Utilize motivational enhancement therapy and stages of change techniques
- Collaborate with medical, nursing, and counseling staff regarding detox clients
- Document casework promptly in compliance with agency policies and procedures, including writing objective case notes, progress and discharge reports, treatment planning, and other timely status reports as requested by the supervisor and according to Louisiana & Joint Commission standards
- Present changes, improvements, or additions to protocols or behavioral health services to the team
- Keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and Northlake Behavioral Health System regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified
- Performs other duties and tasks as required
Required Experience:
- One year of training/experience in substance abuse treatment required
- One to three years of work experience with persons with severe and persistent mental illness and substance use/abuse issues preferred
Required Education:
- A Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling
- Must be licensed, LAC, CDC, or RAC
