Qualifications:
  • 2 years of experience as an Activities Director or Similar Profession - Required.
  • HS Diploma
  • Certified as an Activities Professional is preferred, if not, must be willing to go through the course and get certified.
  • Other desirable skills: Public speaking, creative writing, CDL – passenger endorsement, CPR certification, and nursing/first aid training.
Job purpose:
The planning, implementation and overseeing of activity programs and related documentation for all facility residents based on each individual resident’s interests and comprehensive assessment.
  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Physical requirements:
  • Able to transport residents in wheel chairs.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities
  • Orientation, training, supervision and evaluation of Activity Assistants and volunteers (initial and ongoing). Recruitment of volunteers (including pets). Maintain service hour tracking log and provide written verification of hours/performance as needed.
  • Initiate and maintain all activity-related documentation: attendance records, initial assessments, plans of care, progress notes, annual assessments, significant changes and MDS.
  • Plan monthly activity schedule(s) with Activity Assistants (and resident input from Resident Council). Type, copy and post calendars for residents, staff and family use.
  • Arrange all entertainment (scheduling, set-up/equipment needs, check requests, confirmations).
  • Review supply needs with Activity Assistants. Secure needed items and supplies (budget review, ordering, check requests, shopping) to meet the varied interests and capabilities of the resident population.
  • Create (with Assistants) monthly newsletter. Type and copy for monthly mail out.
  • Chairperson for Resident Council. Keep and type minutes. Distribute copy of minutes to all Department Heads. Follow up as needed.
  • Attend Care Conferences, Department Head Meetings, Facility In-services and Q.A. Meetings.
  • Promote family/community involvement and communication through holiday and special events, family surveys, meetings and phone contact.
  • Offer hospitality care to visiting families and friends. Coordinate Solarium/Dining Room reservations for special family events, tours, and “comfort” visits during crisis times.
  • Coordinate with the hair dresser those residents who desire beautician services.
  • Assure resident safety
