Finance Department Accounting Technician I
Primary Responsibilities: This position is responsible for assisting the Finance Department with the preparation and maintenance of the Regional Commission's accounting records and financial reports. It is the responsibility of the Accounting Technician I to aid in the fiscal operations and grants management of the Transit Program. Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Deputy Finance Director performing duties as assigned. Works closely with the Transit Director to review invoices for payment, process and report on expenditures, maintain records of all activities, and ensure compliance with the guidelines of the State of Georgia regarding the utilization of Transit funds.
Summary of Duties:
- The primary duty of the Accounting Technician I is to prepare, verify and document transit expenditures. Major areas of responsibility include contractor/vendor payments.
- Responsible for preparation of vendor, contractor and staff expense payments and obtaining, reviewing and collecting appropriate documentation. Analyzes, allocates and processes all transit invoices to ensure accuracy, timeliness of payment, and appropriate documentation. Maintains copies of supporting payable documents and reports. Maintains records of contractor payments and purchases.
- Maintain, balance, reconcile, and process transit fares. Interact with vendors and contractors as needed. Prepare monthly grant reimbursement requests.
- Maintain a list of transit capital items and a list of equipment assigned to transit personnel.
- Assists in the preparation of financial and monthly expenditure reports. Prepares monthly reports in order to maintain regular balance controls.
- Approves and oversees purchase requisitions and invoices for payment and coding to appropriate account. Monitors expenditures to ensure budget compliance. Collaborate with team members to provide necessary financial reports to senior-level managers.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Finance Director or Deputy Finance Director.
Other Requirements: Must have valid driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate liability insurance with no business exclusion. Must have means and ability to travel throughout multi-county service area. Some overnight travel may be required. Must be able to lift at least thirty pounds. Must pass required drug screen and criminal background check after offer to hire is made. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and/or overtime if needed. Must conform to standards of conduct for employees. Must present a professional appearance and business demeanor. Must have a good work history including references.
Preferred Qualifications: Completion of two years of education in accounting program, computerized bookkeeping experience; detail oriented; proficient in Excel; MS Word; ability to compose letters and memoranda; knowledge of fund accounting preferred; knowledge and understanding of standard accounting principles and practices. A combination of work experience and education may be used to satisfy these requirements.
