Location: Onsite at USCG FINCEN, 1430A Kristina Way, Chesapeake, VA 23326

Position Description:

The Accountant I assists Senior Accountants with examining, auditing, and interpreting asset accounting records to prepare financial statements, give advice, or audit and evaluate statements prepared by others.

Minimum/General Experience: 1 year of asset accounting experience.

Minimum Education: Bachelors' Degree in accounting or business administration or similar concentration.

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience performing asset tracking
  • Experience performing annual asset reviews and audits
  • Experience auditing federal agencies financial statements
  • Experience performing audit readiness work as a government employee or contractor directly in support of an audit readiness task order
  • Above average proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word
  • Above average attention to detail
  • Ability to follow established processes and procedures
  • Ability to conduct research, including internet research
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a cohesive team
  • Effective in interpersonal relationship building and collaboration
  • Experience performing Useful Life analysis/documentation (preferred)

Security: Ability to obtain/maintain a Moderate Background Investigation (MBI)

  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident that has lived in the United States for at least 3 years

Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) A MBI is conducted by Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and consists of a review of up to but not limited to:

  • Covers 5-10 year period and in some instances lifetime events
  • OPM Security Investigations Index (SII)
  • DOD Defense Central Investigations Index (DCII)
  • National Agency Check (NAC) records
  • FBI name check
  • FBI fingerprint check
  • Credit report check
  • Written inquiries to previous employers and references listed on the application for employment
  • Potential interviews with the subject, spouse, neighbors, supervisor, coworkers
  • Law enforcement check
  • Court records check
  • Education check- Attendance and Degrees

Tasks/activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the tracking and monitoring of personal property inventory
  • Support the asset tracking document system
  • Update tracking systems on SharePoint
  • Update systems for excess inventory (e.g., gsaacess.com)
  • Develop/update policies, procedures, and user manuals
  • Supports annual inventory reviews
  • Performs accounting adjustments
  • Support SharePoint workflow solutions
  • Support quality and program management activities
