We are looking to add a School Academic Counselor to our growing student body. Skyline Gila River is located in the beautiful city of Chandler, Arizona on the southern tip of Chandler.

The primary function of this job is to promote student success and provide administrative support. Provide comprehensive school-based counseling program with an emphasis on academic advisement, career planning, school culture, student discipline as well as coordination of school activities and programs. This person will strive to continually advance school culture through data driven supports within academic, social/emotional and career development for all students. Provide a comprehensive and quality program maintaining the academic and culture of the school including but not limited to building student schedules, mapping career plans, developing scholarship programs, growing social/emotional programs, and promoting student development by collaborating with students, parents, teachers, community organizations, businesses, universities, community colleges and technical schools.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage comprehensive school counseling program including evidence-based programming to address priority college and career readiness needs of students.
  • Collaborate with the administration and faculty members to regularly make data-informed, evidence-based counseling decisions.
  • Monitor student progress and provide personalized support to ensure all students are on track to graduate within four years or build a plan to ensure students who do not meet “on-track” to graduate can complete expeditiously.
  • Spend 80% or more of documented time on direct and indirect services to students. Direct services to students typically include instruction of core curriculum, group activities promoting academic and social/emotional development, individual student college and career planning, responsive services in individual or small group settings, and crisis response support. Indirect services to students typically include consultation with parents, teachers, educators, and community organizations; collaboration with educators, parents, and the community in regard to student achievement; and referrals for students and families to school or community resources.
  • Support 504 referral, evaluation, and accommodation processes.
  • Assist students in crisis situations and refer to district or community resources when appropriate.
  • Remain current with federal laws, state statutes, and district policies related to college and career readiness.
  • Remain current with postsecondary college and career opportunities and best practices, including changes to college admission and financial aid criteria (especially, but not limited to FAFSA) if applicable.
  • Support Special Education team on a case-by-case basis when needed, including attendance at relevant IEP meetings.
  • Conduct orientations for all incoming students and parents, as well as for all transfer students.
  • Work with Registrar on all aspects of scheduling including but not limited to student enrollment, transcript information, credit analysis, school adjustments, etc.
  • Keep accurate records for scheduling, files, and all other mandated information.
  • Annual/semiannual conferences for each grade and parents to develop an ECAP (Education and Career Action Plan).
  • Communication to parents including periodic newsletters, academic/citizenship reports, phone contacts and websites.
  • Administration and interpretation of state and district mandated testing.
  • Understands, supports, produces, and manages student academic data in conjunction with Principal.
  • Participates in PLC to support student academic advancement.
  • Participates as needed in Individual Educational Plan meetings and Child Find Teams.
  • Works closely with all staff and students to ensure school culture development is effective.
  • Enrichment activities, conducted in the classroom in concert with the teacher, include such topics as decision-making and problem solving to help students develop a positive self-image.
  • Receives referrals and confers with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement; responds to and resolves parent and student concerns and complaints; serves on discipline or reports to expulsion panels as assigned.
  • Supervises students on campus and during off campus activities as assigned.
  • Monitors and organizes attendance functions; prepares letters, calls parents, and attends meetings as needed.
  • Recess and lunch duty daily if needed and monitors staff schedules and their duty times.
  • Manages summer school students and programs.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties to assist the Principal and Vice Principal in managing the school; assumes the duties of the Principal in the absence of the Principal and as assigned.
  • Teaches, attends, and works with mentoring program, Professional Development days and school training program
  • Works as part of the administrative team.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.


QUALIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preferred Master’s Degree in Education or related Field.

  • Recommended two (2) years of experience in a leadership role or lead role.
  • Recommended two (2) years of proven, successful experience as a classroom teacher.
  • Participates in a continuing professional development program, maintaining a high level of competence in the field of education.
  • Experience with a variety of online educational systems preferred (testing systems, curriculum resources, etc.)
  • Active Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) issued Level 1 IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
  • Proficient in MS Office products, Google and other web based systems. Ability and desire to learn systems.
