The Orange County Emergency Services Department has openings for 9-1-1 Telecommunicators.

Work Day/Hours: Shifts will vary based on needs of the Center. This position works shift work, with the day shift from 6:30 am to 6:45 pm and the night shift from 6:30 pm to 6:45 am. Applicants must be willing to work any shift assignment along with any assigned mandatory overtime, holidays, and weekends.

Orange County Emergency Services is looking for focused, professional 911 Telecommunicators to answer and dispatch calls in the 9-1-1 emergency communication center for police, fire, emergency medical services and any other support services that require an emergency response. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED)
  • Work experience that includes significant contact with the public
  • U.S. Citizen and be at least 18 years of age (NCAC 10B.0300)
  • Excellent computer and keyboarding skills; type 35 wpm+
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina
  • No Class B (or higher) misdemeanor convictions in the last ten (10) years (please see a list of Class B Convictions Here)
  • No felony convictions
  • Participation in the County Drug and Alcohol Screening program is required
  • Successfully pass an extensive background check, psychological and physical exams prior to hire
  • This position is critical to emergency operations and will report to work in spite of or because of an emergency or disaster event.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $39,187.00 - $59,173.00 per year
