Summer Camp Counselor Job Summary
The Camp Counselor role is responsible for overseeing 5-10 children, depending on age, in their assigned group each day to create projects, games, and lead campers to scheduled weekly activities. Weekly activities may include but are not limited to sports and games, free swim, beach, other outside activities and chaperoning field trips. Based on the needs, supervisory staff will assign camp placement based on counselor preference, availability and the needs of the Park District. Additional questions within the application process will be used to assist with the camp placement process.
The summer camp season, including orientation, is June 5 - August 4

Campers wrap up their camp day at After Camp Rec with games, crafts, and more! Camper age: Grades K-8
Afternoon Adventures Counselor
3 weeks - M-F 8:45-3:30 pm; 4 weeks 11 am-3:30 pm
Camp meets after District #39 Summer Enrichment. Camp is full day for the first 3 weeks, and afternoons only the last 4 weeks. Enjoy days filled with fun activities, field trips, sports, free swim, arts and crafts. Camper age: Grades 1-6
Aquatics Camp Counselor
M-F 9 am-2:15 pm
Campers enjoying Lake Michigan offerings such as paddleing boarding, banana boating, kayaking and much more. Camper age: Grades 5-8
Arts in the Park Counselor
M-F 8:45 am-2:45 pm
Young artists have the opportunity to explore different kinds of art, attend weekly field trips, and visit Centennial Pool and Gillson Beach. Camper age: Grade 1-6
Broadway Bound Counselor
M-F 8:45 am-3:15 pm
Each session of this performing arts camp is jam packed with acting, singing, dancing, lighting, audio and stage crew activities that culminate in a full length complete junior production. Campers visit Gillson Beach weekly and attend one field trip each session. Camper age: Grades 1-8
Camp Innovation Counselor
M-F 9 am-1:30 pm
Campers explore science and math activities while also doing traditional camp activities including outdoor play, field trips, and trips to Gillson Beach. Camper age: 4-7 years old
Dance Camp Counselor
M-F 8:45 am-3:15 pm
Dancers partake in daily technique classes and explore major dance styles: Ballet, Jazz, Hip-hop, Musical Theatre and surprise genres. Campers have free swim twice each week and go on field trips. Camper age: Grades 3-8
Great Gillson Camp Counselor
M-F 9 am-3 pm
Counselors will help facilatate the campers having great fun in all 59 acres of Gillson Park as they participate in a wide variety of activities along our Lakefront including sailing, swimming, field trips and much more. Camper age: Grades 3-8
Hummingbirds Camp Counselor
M-F 8 am-6 pm (6 hour shift within this time)
Our youngest campers enjoy their first camp experience with indoor and outdoor play and weekly themes. Counselors will be required to assist in diapering. Camper age: 2 years old
Junior Day Camp Counselor
M-F 8:45 am-3:15 pm
Campers have fun-filled days with crafts, games, activities, free swim, swim lessons, trips to Gillson Beach and a weekly field trip. Camper age: Grades 1-4
Jr. Lifeguard Counselor
M-F 8:30 am-12 pm
Must be a Gillson Lifeguard to Apply
Lifeguards will teach all skills of being a lifeguard on our Lakefront. Camper age: Grades 6-9
Little World Travelers Counselor
M-F 9 am-12 pm
Campers "travel" to a new country each week and do crafts and activities related to that country. Camper age: 3-5 years old
Pinterest Art Camp Counselor
M-F 9 am-12 pm
Campers create Pinterest inspired crafts each day. Camper age: Grades 6-8
Preschool Dance Camp Counselor
M-F 9 am-12 pm
Preschool Dance Camp is focused on movement and music. Camper age: 3-5 years old
Sports Camp Counselor
M-F 8:45 am-2:45 pm
Campers participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor sports with an emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship. Sports Camp visits Gillson Beach and Centennial Pool weekly and attends a weekly field trip. Camper age: Grades 1-6

Teen Camp Counselor

Teens attend three field trips each week, a weekly trip to Gillson Beach and free swim at Centennial Pool. Camper age: Grades 6-9
