This Volunteer Management AmeriCorps VISTA will be hosted by PADS Lake County located in Waukegan, Illinois. PADS Lake County is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Since 1972, PADS Lake County has provided immediate, critical services to individuals and families that are experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to provide trauma-informed support, resources, and shelter to individuals and families experiencing a housing crisis. We envision a community in which homelessness is rare, brief, and nonrecurring; one in which those experiencing a housing crisis have timely access to needed resources and services. As the only emergency homeless shelter in Lake County, PADS serves as the point of entry not only to our holistic wrap-around services and shelter; but also, provides referrals to other homeless services and housing options in the community. Our main facility is in Waukegan, while our shelters and housing programs are strategically located throughout Lake County. This Volunteer Management VISTA will collaborate with our Shelter Coordinator to increase and re-engage volunteers lost during COVID-19 outbreak, as well as work with our development team to increase and organize donations. This position will be working directly with staff, the VISTA will be continuing and improving the project implemented by the previous VISTA. The ideal candidate is organized, dedicated, and detail-oriented. They will work cohesively as a part of a team and within diverse communities in the public. Customer service skills are a plus
Member Duties : The Volunteer Management VISTA will be working with our Shelter Coordinator and development team at PADS Lake County to make a direct impact on supporting our volunteer shelter staff and clients. The VISTA will be expected to write monthly reports and track their impact as they work with staff to make systematic changes at PADS. They will be expected to commute occasionally between different shelter sites in Lake County, as well as attend training in Chicago, so a vehicle is necessary and mileage will be reimbursed. By maintaining organization systems for our in-kind donations and client items, they will identify gaps in donation needs and create procedures for coordinating donation drop offs and tracking inventory. They will collaborate with our Shelter Coordinator to create quarterly trainings for volunteers, staff, and clients. They will also coordinate with the development team to learn the volunteer management system and track donor contributions.
