The Outreach Data VISTA will be hosted by Pads Lake County located in Waukegan, IL. PADS Lake County is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Since 1972, PADS Lake County has provided immediate, critical services to individuals and families that are experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to provide trauma-informed support, resources, and shelter to individuals and families experiencing a housing crisis. We envision a community in which homelessness is rare, brief, and nonrecurring; one in which those experiencing a housing crisis have timely access to needed resources and services. As the only emergency homeless shelter in Lake County, PADS serves as the point of entry not only to our holistic wrap-around services and shelter; but also, provide referrals to other homeless services and housing options in the community. Our main facility is in Waukegan, while our shelters and housing programs are strategically located throughout Lake County. The Outreach Data VISTA will work with our outreach team to support individuals and families that are experiencing homelessness in receiving the broad spectrum of support they need to break the cycle of poverty. They will gain experience collecting data, facilitating education programs, and collaborating with those experiencing homelessness and poverty. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, speak Spanish, and be highly organized.
Member Duties : The Outreach Data VISTA will build the capacity of PADS by collaborating with our outreach team to engage regularly with outreach clients while collecting high quality data on those experiencing homelessness in the community, develop systems of document organization for intake paperwork with PADS outreach clients, and collaborate with community partners and the PADS Outreach Manager on educational activities. They will also develop an educational curriculum to improve resources and connectivity with those experiencing homelessness and experiencing high barriers to shelter services in the Lake County community. By researching best practices and collaborating with the PADS outreach team, the VISTA will develop four outreach programs that can be conducted during different seasons of the year, with at least two programs engaging community partners (ex. police, township, and local hospitals).
