The Affordable Housing Development VISTA will be hosted by Claretian Associates, located in South Chicago. Claretian Associates is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Since 1991, Claretian Associates has built a community within the culturally diverse neighborhood of South Chicago by working with community leaders, residents, and organizations to provide affordable housing and related services for low- and moderate- income people. Claretian Associates also builds resident-based leadership and catalyzes the creation of innovative solutions to improve the quality of life. Our housing programs and wrap-around services focus on a targeted 12-block area, and we have created a total of 137 affordable homes and apartments. Claretian Associates continues to work with other neighborhood stakeholders to undertake community development projects and services that continue to enrich the lives of the Southeast Chicago area. The Affordable Housing Development VISTA will help Claretian Associates develop its next set of affordable housing units (20 new and 35 rehabbed) and further our mission by inspiring new entrants into affordable housing development jobs. Ideal candidates will be interested in the real estate development side of affordable housing and want to create employment pathways to housing-related jobs. The successful applicant should have demonstrable organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. This position requires the applicant to work as part of a team and independently on tasks.
